New Batch of WODs

October 13th, 2009 · No Comments · WOD, practicing

I’ve gotten behind on my WOD posts, so here’s a new batch of four! As a rehearsal technique, it’s meant to be educational, and I can definitely say I’ve learned a lot from these exercises. Here’s a few thoughts:

  • writing and recording a song every day, even a small one, is a lot to take on! Especially considering that I’ve been trying to get in a couple hours of technique practice every day, along with various other projects! So, I think I’m going to save up recordings for Thursday and Friday – my two lightest teaching days. Whatever I’ve written up to that point will get knocked out on those two days.
  • It’s the nature of the system that most songs have odd length phrases. This is turning out to be harder than I though, especially when it comes to improvising a solo! Some are hits, some are misses, but 4-bar phrases start seeming easier and easier!
  • It’s surprising how listenable many of these melodies are – especially in context of the rhythm and chord changes. Played solo, they don’t make any sense, but in context they start to get really catchy! Don’t be surprised if quite a few of these pop up again in another context!

So, for this week I’ve posted 4 new recordings – Noisome, Puissant, Alacrity, and Cavort. Enjoy, and we’ll check back in next week!
